Foundations of Environmental Education in Illinois!


The Foundations of Environmental Education Course is designed to provide educators with an understanding of keystone knowledge, skills, and methodologies behind leading practices in the field of environmental education.

The course comprises six online, asynchronous modules designed to provide a broad yet comprehensive understanding of the environmental education field. Modules contain Illinois specific information to deepen your connection to our state.


1. Environmental Literacy and Ecological Identity

2. Foundations of Environmental Education

3. Professional Responsibility of the Environmental Educator

4. Planning and Implementation of Environmental Education

5. Fostering Learning and Promoting Inclusivity

6. Principle of Assessment & Evaluation in Environmental Education

The module content is resource-rich with opportunities to dig deeper into key concepts. It is intended to enrich the lens through which you view and practice environmental education. It is an effort to strengthen your foundational understanding of environmental education and what it means to be an environmental educator. 

The course demonstrates many ideas to support best practices as well as practical, ready-to-implement resources and ideas.

Developed in conjunction with the Illinois educators at Wonderworks Project Partners, his course is perfect for new environmental educators looking to dig deeply into their work and also has great depth to offer more experienced practitioners. All are welcome!
